Rock Collecting on State and Federal Lands

Parks as a rule, the state and national do not normally allow visitors to dig into their parks, as it contributes to erosion and can spoil the natural beauty of the region. There are also regulations in place to protect the natural, cultural and archaeological. And then there are legal ramifications if taken without proper authorization or permit.

But there are a few exceptions to almost everything, as with the Crater of Diamonds State Park is located in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. This park is encouraging visitors to get their hands dirty. For a small fee, currently $ 7 for adults and $ 4 for children over 6 years, visitors are allowed to dig for diamonds and other precious stones and can keep their finds. Some visitors have even found a few gems.

Rock collection in the national forests and state recreation areas
State recreation areas, and state and national forests may have a more relaxed, like Garnet Hill Recreation Area in White Pine County near Ely, Nevada. Rockhounds will be pleased to know that the government designated the area as a zone of rock prospecting for garnets.

Interested in finding more of garnets? Visit the St. Joe National west of clarkia, Idaho forest and try prospecting for "star garnets" in the area of Emerald Creek Garnet. A permit for one day visitors can take up to 5 pounds of garnets. Visitors can purchase a maximum of six permits per year, limiting them to a grand annual total of 30 pounds of garnets.

In the Ouachita National Forest, located in Arkansas, rockhounds can search for quartz, two free to use quartz crystal areas to collect the "Crystal Vista" in the Womble Ranger District located near Mt. Ida, and "Crystal Mountain" in the area between Jessieville Ranger Jessieville and Perryville.

The rules for the collection of rocks in the Ouachita National Forest vary greatly from what rockhounds can expect commercial sites Quartz Mining. All crystals collection made in the Ouachita National Forest needs to be done by hand, without tools or digging, and can not be made in very limited quantities, less than 25 pounds per person.

Rockhounds can dig for amethyst crystal to 220 acres Crystal Park, located in the Pioneer Mountains of Montana only 70 miles from the city of Butte. This area is rich amethyst administered by the Beaverhead-Deerlodge Forest Service National and is open from May to September depending on road conditions.

Rockhounding and the Bureau of Land Management
California has several options for rockhounds with Bureau of Land Management, or BLM, which allows the collection of rock at Turtle Mountain, Chemehuevi Wash and Vidal Junction, all located near the Parker Dam. At these locations, rockhounders enjoy access to find desert jasper, Opalite, agate and opal.

In addition, Chambless near Amboy Crater is the National Landmark and the Marble Mountain Rock collecting area outside the historic route 66. Here collectors can hunt for rock epidote, dolomite, chrysocolla, chalcedony, serpentine, marble, garnet and specular hematite, iron and kenatite, crystals of chalcedony, geodes and gold.

In the Yellowstone area, Wyoming, Montana and Idaho, prospectors can search for gold in the many creeks and streams. In fact, in the Kootenai National Forest near the town of Libby, Montana, an entire area has been set aside for gold panning, and even the South Pass area of Wyoming near the town of Lander has almost become paradise gold prospecting.

With a little research, find a rockhound determined that there is no limit to the number of places open to the rock collection, like this: Best Places to dig for gems in the United States.

Dig Your Own Gems and Gold in Georgia

The hills and mountains of northern Georgia are called solid gold. We just know where to look. Placer gold is gold that has traveled from its source of origin because of erosion and retreat of ice streams. Placer gold can be found in many streams and creeks that fallout from the mountain. You can find public access to some of these flows, but take care not to infringe or collect on private land.

For gold need not be high tech, and gold can be collected using a simple high-sided metal pan. It requires a little skill in the swirling water and gravel from the pan, keeping and allowing the gold dust to accumulate in the bottom of the pan without losing them. No one should expect to get rich quick search of gold, but it's a fun activity for young and old, especially if a gold nugget happens to turn into the bottom of the pan.

Gold prospecting in Georgia Locations
In northern Georgia, the City of Dahlonega was once the site of the gold rush first and still maintains a museum of history of gold out there today. Gold prospectors in the vicinity can try their skills or panoramic several gold mines nearby.

Crisson Gold Mine, Dahlonega.
Gold n Gem Grubbing mine, Cleveland.
Consolidated Gold Mine, Dahlonega. Offers a tour of the cave and gold panning.
Loud Mine, located in Cleveland, is a camp or private property that allows exploration Lost Dutchman Mining Association (LDMA) and Gold Prospectors Association of America (CRM) members to prospect for gold. The gold found here is supposed to be closer to the source due to the size of the specimens found.

Gem Mining Georgia
Georgia also offers gems and minerals other than gold. A mine that allows rockhounds digging the mine is located in Lagrange Hogg. Star rose quartz, amethyst, tourmaline crystals, and crystals of beryl aquamarine can be found here. These specimens are beautiful. The mine operates by appointment only and offers the opportunity to other areas to dig. Carrefour close to Jackson was an amethyst mine that at last had been sold and is no longer in operation.

Savannah River Agate (chert) can be found along the River Road right of way outside of Girard. When searching for agates in this area, not to encroach on a private property lining both sides of the road. It is also imperative that all the holes can be dug in the extrication of agate be recharged quickly.

Georgia can still hold a few more places hidden gem. Rockhounds can seriously consider contacting local clubs pearl and mining in the region to see what the state may have to offer. Other places to explore are located in nearby North and South Carolina and offer opportunities jewel of numerous excavations to keep collectors busy rock.

Adventure Gold Prospecting for Fun and Profit

Gold mining is still big business. If it is a major growth industry, there is still ample room for the general public to go out and "make a fortune."

It is the dream of almost every boy who sees the old movies like Treasure of the Sierra Madre, television shows, like gold fever, and documentaries on the Klondike. In fact, the Gold Prospectors Association of America, CRM and encourages further exploration active today both for individuals and families. They provide guidance for the fun and adventure for the whole family - and yes, maybe some profit as well.

According to the U.S. Department of the Interior, there are still areas where we can explore, and if a discovery is made, we can stake a claim. Many areas are still without reservation. Many are on public lands administered by the federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) or Forest Service. Public Land Records BLM State Office will show the correct status of the land and are available for public consultation, and sometimes to buy.

Prospecting for gold for fun and profit in the U.S. Top Ten
So where can potential prospectors try their luck? According to the article "Where to find gold in the United States," by fever gold prospecting (aka Motherlode Outfitters), Coarsegold, California, 2007, gold can be found:

In Alaska, many localities of gold contributed to a gold production while some 29,225,071 ounces. Now the sites are numerous, for example, near Gulkana, in the river and its tributaries Chitnis in the Slana River, etc.
In Arkansas, the gold can be found in the Ouachita Mountains.
In Georgia, the gold was found in the forests of West and East of Blairsville city, and streams and washes south of Gumlog Lumpkin County.
California has been named "The Golden State" because of the great "gold rush of 1849." Even now ranks third gold mine production in California and the State has produced more than 150 million ounces of gold. California has many sites in both North and South locations, including the Auburn State Recreation Area, South Yuba River State Park, Malakoff Diggins, Hangtown Gold Bug Park & Mine, etc.
Colorado ranks second among states producing gold that produced over 40 million ounces of gold, with most mines being in the mountainous western half of the state.
In Washington, gold production has been increasing year by year. It has the third largest lode mine sites in the U.S. and found in almost all counties of Benton at Yakama.
In Wisconsin, the gold could be found almost everywhere where glaciers have experienced.
Arizona also has many mines, especially in the Turquoise district (east of Tombstone), with finely divided gold in the gravel slope.
Montana also has over 24 counties where gold was found, from Beaverhead County Toole.
New Mexico counties of gold include Colfax, Grant, Hildalgo, Lincoln, Otero, Rio Arriba, Sandoval, San Miguel, Santa Fe, Sierra and Taos.
Camps and guides available for assistance
There are many camps that are open to the public and help provide maps, shelter, food, fun, adventure, and guides to minimize problems and make prospecting a pleasant experience. They can be found in the yellow pages, calling the Chamber of Commerce, or by contacting the Gold Prospectors Association of America (GPAA.)

With any luck, we can find enough flakes or nuggets to pay for their holidays, or maybe even make a handsome profit. For many, the prospect can be the adventure of a lifetime.

Metal Detector Digging Tools

Nobody can tell you what is the right tool to dig for you. it's about the perfect tool for jobs and land, and personal preferences. I am certainly no expert, but I have some helpful tips when it comes to digging the city park. I broke my digging tool first. It was mainly a question of being very cheap. It was also a poor technique. After I watched the pros do it on youtube for a while I thought about it. In addition to becoming something strong, you do not use the handle for leverage. You want to take the shovel as you are now the top of the spoon. So if you have no prying, your hand is gripping the top of the spoon and handle. This is also how you get the most of your body weight to the tool all, instead of all your weight on the end of the handle while prying. This will give you more power to your cup down. This is the concept behind the ever famous "Digger Lesche" digging tool.

Gold testing kits

HOW DO THESE QUALITY GOLD TESTING ACIDS AND ACCESSORIES WORK?
The basic procedure or test is to test a small scratch the metal of the sample you are testing on the test stone. Place a few drops of the acid test on the sample and observe. If the quality of gold is equal to or greater than the quality carats valued on acid acid test will not be the effect of the sample. If the metal is not tested or gold with a purity lower than the quality rating of test acid the acid will destroy the sample. An alternative method is to make two scratches on the stone, one with the metal of the test sample and one with needle test for gold purity known. When you apply the acid you see two stripes to see how they compare.

Amateur With Metal Detector Finds Gold Hoard

Amateur With Metal Detector Finds Gold Hoard - video and article below

One of the most exhilarating experiences in life is to discover a precious object, especially when it comes to an astonishing discovery so impressive that he causes others to be jealous. The bug can get the treasure the beginning of life with one in four feet of digging in his garden and can stay with someone until old age, as he becomes a prospector panning for gold along a gray stream distance.

Most treasure hunts, of course, failure and disappointment. But some dreamers with the right combination of persistence and luck come across monumental discoveries that take a life of their own mythology and are discussed for years to come.

There is no doubt that metal detectors passionate lover of Herbert Terry falls into this category.

As reported Thursday by The Associated Press, Herbert was to explore an English farm in July when he discovered a treasure massive Anglo-Saxon gold and silver sword decorations and other military objects dating from the 7th century . The discovery of at least 1345 points, some inlaid with precious stones, is considered the largest of its kind from that time and has excited the archaeologists in Britain.

Herbert and the landowner are not identified some of the enriched product they will collect when the treasure was sold to museums. His countrymen do not share the financial benefits, but they will be culturally enriched by the planned public display of dazzling objects.

Herbert, who spent five days before the discovery of the treasure of professional archaeologists took over, told the AP: "Imagine you are at home and someone keeps putting money through your mailbox that was what it was. I was going to bed in my sleep and I could see gold objects. "

Mining regulation and education

 Ownership of mineral
The government of New Zealand has all the oil of natural origin (including oil and gas), radioactive minerals, and gold and silver in New Zealand. Any person or company wanting to prospect, explore or mine these substances must be licensed under the Minerals Act 1991 and the Crown to pay the fees and charges specified. The same rules apply to coal and all other metal ores and non-metallic aggregates and on land owned by the Crown.
Extraction of minerals and aggregates other than petroleum, radioactive minerals and gold and silver on private land requires the consent of the landowner in cooperation with the resource consents granted by local authorities under the provisions of Act resource management.

Environment and safety regulation
The Resource Management Act 1991 and its amendments is the major piece of environmental legislation which controls land use. It has a comprehensive framework for the development and protection of almost all the physical and natural. Mining is excluded from the provision of the Act on sustainability, but that mining invariably involves the use and modification of the earth, all other parties apply.
Local authorities (district and regional councils) are responsible for administering the Act on the management of resources. Most jurisdictions have incorporated the local rules and guidelines for the extraction of minerals in their district plans.
Workplace safety is covered by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1992. Special rules for mining are covered in HSE (Mining Administration) Regulations 1996.
Corporate training
Because of the skills required in the various aspects of mining and the dangers of working with explosives and heavy machinery, the qualifications have long been required to conduct many aspects of mining. In the 19th century, the government has set up a network of schools of mines that provided a practical and theoretical training. The Otago School of Mines, University of Otago, produces graduates in mining engineering. These schools were all closed.
In the 2000s the Extractive Industries Training Organisation (EXITO) offers a range of qualifications covering both underground and open pit, mineral and petrochemical processing, the use of explosives and electrical engineering.
No university education in mining or mining engineering is available in New Zealand, and those who need higher qualifications required to study abroad.

Māori and Chinese miners

Maori knew the mountain passes of South Island rivers and their journeys to collect pounamu (green). Early prospectors had Maori guides. When Maori realized that Europeans value placed on gold, some joined the rushes. In 1858 there were 600 Maori men work the fields alongside Collingwood 1300 Europeans. He was Māori prospectors who revealed the promise of the West Coast where they showed their gold trader Collingwood. He recognized the coarse gold as different, and after questioning, they led him to the river Arahura.
Maori were less frequent on the fields of Otago. Even so, the Maori point of the Shotover River is named after Daniel and Erihana Hākaraia Haeroa in 1863 to find. When his dog was swept away and Daniel swam after he fell on a bar of gold and stones, so the story goes, the gold dust in the dog's coat. Before nightfall, the two men had recovered 300 ounces (8.5 kg) of coarse gold from the rock crevices.
Thrown into the river
Maori traditionally placed no value on gold - pounamu (green) was their precious minerals. In the early 1800s an Otago whaler named Palmer was told by a Maori chief that the gold of the watch-seals of white men could also be found on the beaches of the Clutha River. And around 1852, seeing a sample of Tasmanian gold, another Maori said he had once picked up a nugget of potato-sized banks of the Clutha, and thrown into the water.

On the Coromandel Peninsula, Maori have resisted attempts to open their land to mining gold in the 1860s, but few could stand between the Europeans and gold. In 1935, the Ngāti Hori Waten Tamatea tribe, testifying before a commission of inquiry into the Goldfield Ohinemuri, described gold as a curse, as it had strengthened the European interest in the land.
Chinese miners
Minors Otago province is encouraging, mainly from Guangdong province in southern China, to come to New Zealand to replace the Europeans who had deserted the fields of Otago in 1866 for the new footage on the West Coast. The Chinese intended to gain wealth for their families and eventually return to China.
Their mining methods were unique - they worked closely on an area and left behind very little gold, while most European miners were more random. The Chinese preferred to previously mined areas as he was known gold there, and they knew that much gold was lost in the dishes.
After finding gold in Otago and Southland, many Chinese miners were attracted to the West Coast. In the workings of the alluvial gold Īnangahua they represented about 40% (715) of the population in 1882, but numbers have declined in the depression of the 1880s. Their celebration of Chinese New Year with fireworks added interest in the gold mines. Superstition kept some Chinese men tunnels. In places like Greenstone Creek, on the west coast, during the construction of water races they cut deep cracks in the cliffs to avoid tunnel.
Their appearance, clothing, language and use of opium all Chinese miners out as different. They lived in their own premises, and some shops belonging supply of their compatriots. A population of about 5,000 in 1881. Prejudice saw a poll tax introduced in 1881 to discourage immigration. Most hoped to earn enough gold to go home, but many died in New Zealand. Some have been exhumed to be buried at home, but the remains of 499 Chinese miners (including Charles Sew Hoy) instead was a sea burial when their vessel sank off the Vennor the Hokianga in 1902.
Film New Zealand, Energy Illustrious (1988), depicts the Chinese gold miners of Central Otago, and their colonies have been restored and rebuilt in places like Arrowtown.

Electronic Gold Detectors

Selecting a suitable metal detector can be a very difficult task and you could make a costly mistake. Find metal detectors for the purchase is easy, but finding information that is useful is not so easy.

Most magazines are full of exploration ads touting the company manufactures the metal detector and you'll be rich if you just get this model. How true are their claims? Is a specific model to help you find more treasure?

The truth of the matter is that luck plays a big role in the treasure hunt. Regardless of the metal detector you have, if you are not the right place at the right time, you will not find anything.

However, having the right equipment and knowledge can help you in the right place more often.

What do you look for?

This is a very important question to ask. What you normally do, and what kind of gold is in your area? Have you been to find nuggets in a particular area or you are simply looking for an extra edge while panning?

If you are a casual prospector, then you can not even need a detector. If you decide that it can be fun, then a model that can also be used to find coins on the beach can be a better choice for you.

If you were to find nuggets, then you want to get a gold detector specific, as it will be fine for your application, finding nuggets.

Another thing to keep in mind is the field that you normally search in. If you are planning a serious hiking, you may want a body mounted sensor, so that your hands are free. If you work streams, then you want a tight coil and detector. If the soil is dense and highly mineralized, you may need a detector with better filtering capabilities of a standard model.

Do your homework first

Technology is constantly evolving, and even the most advanced detectors of a few years ago are virtually obsolete today. It is important to know which models are truly new and improved, and which are just repackaging of outdated designs.

Updating old designs is often accomplished by adding microprocessors or LCD screens. This can make a detector more pleasant to use, but adds little or nothing to their real capacity.

People are often inclined to be loyal to a particular brand. However, this can be a serious mistake if a superior performance with a better warranty may be obtained elsewhere.

Change in technology can quickly overcome the experience, do not assume you know everything. Do your homework. Knowledge is the best substitute for experience.

How does a switch work?

Metal detectors indicate the presence of metal. A metal detector works by creating a magnetic field that is used to load the zone below its coil. As the field moves in front of an underground object, it reacts to the magnetic field through the creation of his own domain. The sensor detects the tiny fields and tells the operator that there is something metal and what type of metal, it can be.

There are two types of common sensors.

Very low frequency (VLF) models are the most common and work very well. A nice feature is that they often have very good discriminator circuits. This keeps the detector can find pop tabs, when you are looking for parts.

Soil type is desired limits VLF detector efficiency. If there is mineralization, such as salt, the scope of the detector will be reduced.

Pulse Induction (PI) function to send a strong push into the ground and measuring the time it takes for the field to rot. If it takes more than a few milliseconds, then there is something metal in the box below. Different metals retain the pulse field longer, allowing the detector to determine the type of material that was found.

PI detectors have much more depth and work better in soil that is mineralized as VLF models, but they do not discriminate as well.

How to Buy a metal detector

As much research as you can on as many detectors as possible.

Know your area and what you find.

Know the limits of your favorite detector.

Go to store rental and a detector for a day. Its research capacity and then take it for a ride as you would normally. Its capacity, weight and comfort may surprise you.

Unit Name cheaper, more expensive, or brand can not be the best deal. Take time to compare the abilities.

How To Plan Your First Gold Panning Trip

The time has finally come. You are about to go out on your adventure into gold first. What will you find? Are you ready for the trip?

Planning a trip to gold mining is very similar to planning for hiking. I will assume that you are planning a day trip.

The key to any successful trip is ready for anything, without being burdened with gear. I like to break planning a trip to three categories: gold mining, safety and comfort. The following show you what I recommend that you bring and why.

Gold Panning Equipment

A pot of gold and a piece of back or new. I always have my trusty slant in my bag, I know. Before trying a new dish, I often use my skillet first standard, so I know what I can expect to find.

Toys to play in the dirt include a shovel, a scoop and a large screen. I call these toys to play in the dirt as a kid because that's what I used and because I originally used to screen sandbox for my daughter for gold panning. She was not too happy about it when she thought of her.

A lever. I was lucky enough to find a lever with a handful of departure is the perfect length to double as a walking stick. This is very useful when crossing streams and climbing steep hills. Whenever possible, try to find things that serve a dual purpose.

A bottle or bottle to collect gold snifter you find. As tweezers and a magnifying glass may help. Hopefully you will not need glass to see your gold. However, it is often useful to look closely at the soil, minerals or conclusions.

Specialized tools. Depending on where I venture I often add an additional device such as a device crevicing. Crevicing device sucks up submerged material from cracks in rocks in the stream. Many people like having a periscope that can be as simple as a tube with a plastic wrap on the bottom of things. This allows you to see what is on the bottom of the stream, and if you're lucky see a small yellow glow.

Safety Equipment

Make and use a hand sanitizer.

Have several sizes of bandages. Usually the worst that you can get is a knuckle disposed of, but better be safe than sorry.

Know something about first aid. You will walk on slippery rocks and other hazards. It benefits you know how to treat a twisted ankle or broken.

Snake bite kit. A friend almost stepped on a rattlesnake while we, where the pan. Fortunately, he was young and did not strike.

A bell attached to your belt. This alert bears and other animals to your presence.

Basic survival equipment. Every time you venture into the woods, you should have the basics to survive at least one night. Band-AIDS, chocolate, water tablets, painkillers, lighter and fishing hooks and line are a good start. There are many sardines can first aid kits available.

Make sure someone knows where you are going and when you return.

Comfort Stuff

Sunscreen and a hat. Heat stroke can be deadly and sunburn is not fun. Take a moment to protect yourself.

High-energy snacks. The first few times I went gold panning I was very surprised to see how the work was for the muscles that I did not used to using. Having snacks like trail mix really help to avoid collapse.

Water. Beer and other alcoholic beverages are relaxing, but they dehydrate you. You must ensure you drink water on a regular basis, especially if it is hot. Otherwise, you can become dehydrated. My golden rule is a small bottle of water every hour and if it's a hot day, I also jump into the water after drinking.

A small chair can save you a lot back pain. Gold Panning involves a lot of squatting and kneeling. A small light chair, especially if you know you'll be in the same place for a while, can really make things much more comfortable.

Good shoes or maybe sandals. You'll be splashing in a river often and do some climbing. Hiking shoes are great. Other people prefer rain boots. But my preference is Teva sandals - durable and comfortable with good grip for walking on wet rocks and possibly viscous.

Shopping List For Panning Gold

Your shopping list for supplies of gold panning base should be roughly as follows:

  • A gold pan of good quality.
  • A vial or snifter bottle.
  • A small shovel.
  • A bucket and classifier that fits it.
  • A solid scoop.
  • A pry bar.
  • Tweezers.
  • Beverages, snacks, bug spray, sun screen and toilet paper.

When shopping for a pan you may find yourself surprised by the variety in pots of gold. You want a plastic pot because they are lighter and easier to use than a metal mold. Your stove should be green and have very pronounced ridges molded into the sides.

The two most common forms for pots of gold are round and square. Common for gold panning and start, you want a round mold. Cutting a square pan with gravel very quickly which makes it ideal for surveying, but it is more difficult to learn to use and does not separate the black sand and gravel, gold and a round pan made of . Take a square pan after starting to find gold with a round pan.

A vial for holding gold is a common thing, but I found a bottle snifter to be much better. The bottles are best for storage and presentation of the gold at home in the area. They break easily (especially when frozen), can leak make you lose your conclusions, and are easy to lose.

Snifter bottle has a small tube that extends into the bottom of the bottle and an inner lid so that nothing comes out until you're ready. The bottle is plastic, so it will not break, is larger making it harder to lose or give up and works really well.

The next most useful thing to have a classifier or sieve, that will save you a lot of work. To use, simply place the display in the bottom of your pan, add dirt and water from your pan and shake the classifier. As the soil is wet, all the gold will go to the bottom of your pan, leaving only large rocks being thrown.

If you want a little more serious on the pan, you want a bar shovel, bucket and lever with you. The classifier must keep on top of your bucket. Now you can filter your documents as you fill your bucket, thereby saving time while panning the material.

Since gold is so dense, he moved often under rocks, hence the need for a lever. Many people have moved a rock in a stream to find a gold ring around its base. I managed to find a lever that has a T-handle bar, so it doubles as a walking stick, very useful when crossing streams.

The small ball is something that can easily be overlooked. You'll quickly discover it is almost impossible to pick up dirt from a creek with a shovel. Very solid with a spoon, you can achieve and maintain the equipment you wanted to pan. Look for something the size of a coffee cup, but is very thick plastic or metal, as it will take a beating. Some surplus stores army thick plastic cup / bowl articles. It has a tiny handful pointed toe and a deep bowl, the perfect tool to scoop up material.

These basic tools work for you no matter where you are panning and terrain. After releasing a few times, you may find that some things work a little better for you or your area. The best way to learn is to go there, have fun experimenting, and talking to people you meet on site or at your local store prospecting.

Prospecting Tips

  • Contact state government departments regarding the types of permits you need for the type of prospecting you wish to do. They are very knowledgeable and really understand the difficulties faced by beginners.

  • Always ensure you have permission to access the area you wish to prospect. Contact pastoral leaseholders prior to entering the area.

  • Don’t be afraid to ask mining companies about access to their mining and prospecting areas. They are generally receptive to requests in exchange for the knowledge of your discoveries, particularly on their Exploration Licences.

  • If confronted by others asking you to leave the area, you have the right to politely ask for identification and evidence of their authority. It would be worth taking note of the details.

  • When using a metal detector, always dig every target. What sounds like a tin can has often been a decent nugget.

  • After digging out a nugget, always backfill your hole.

  • Don’t expect to find a fortune on your first day, because you won’t.

  • Enjoy the exercise and have fun!

Gold Mining in Idaho

Although Idaho is probably best known for its agricultural production of potatoes and a design center for semiconductor chips, the state is richly endowed with a surplus of natural resources that extend way beyond the export of a root vegetable gold and innovative memory products. Nickname State of Idaho is the "Gem State" because almost all known gems was found there. Mainly mountainous region of northwestern United States is one of only two places in the world that star garnets have been discovered and is also home to exclusive six-pointed star garnets. In addition to the gold of the impressive variety of important metals that are in Idaho reads like a laundry list, including: antimony, beryllium, chromium, cobalt, copper, lead, molybdenum, phosphates, platinum, silver, thorium, tungsten, vanadium and zinc. The largest contributors of these deposits to the national economy are silver, phosphate, lead and zinc. Currently, Idaho produced the most money newly extracted and is the second largest producer of phosphate in the nation, representing nearly 45 percent of all cash and 15 percent phosphate product on an annual basis.
The historical context
In the fall of 1860, a group of ten prospectors made the Nez Perce reservation in search of mineral wealth and after difficult months of frustration, Wilbur Bassett discovered the precious metal along Canal Gulch. Rich gold discoveries in the Boise Basin in 1863, encouraged two thousand miners rushing to the Snake River than believing that there was gold in abundance. It is this gold rush that brought the first permanent white settlers of Idaho and caused the country to be established by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863. According to the Geological Survey of the United States (USGS), Idaho was one of the major placer mining of State from 1860 to 1866 was credited to the production of as much as 19 percent of all gold equivalent to approximately 2.5 million ounces. By late 1800 the deposits of silver, lead and zinc were discovered in the area of Coeur d'Alene.
Geological setting
A series of digital maps, data files and reports were produced by the USGS to provide information and geological process of mineral resources with short-term predictions of future mineral activity and forecasts in the longer term to take account of the discovery of future extensions of known mineral deposits, and for the future discovery of mineral deposits is currently unknown. The report uses quantitative estimates of mineral resources currently unknown with some generalizations about the likely areal distribution of undiscovered pools in the ecosystem of the Interior Columbia Basin, Northwest Pacific, which suggests that 58 percent of the average estimated gold resources discovered are considered to occur in a contiguous area of southeastern Oregon, southwestern Idaho and northern Nevada, mostly in the vein superficially deposited and hot springs deposits .
A classic mesothermal vein deposit was discovered in the district of Coeur d'Alene. One of the chief areas of dredging is in the Boise Basin, a few miles north of Boise, in the central western part of the state with other alluvial deposits along the Salmon River and the Clearwater River and its tributaries, especially in Elk City, Pierce and Orofino. Extremely fine (or "flour") or is in the sand deposits along the Snake River in southern Idaho.
Current developments and the political context
In an exclusive interview with Gold Investing News, Virginia S. Gillerman, economic geologist with the Idaho Geological Survey said a "significant increase in exploration for gold in Idaho in the last two years." It is expected that, "it will be a busy season on the ground - a little delayed by heavy snow this year" Major gold plays are some areas of Idaho's historic gold production, with increased activity last year and continuing into this year ..
In the latest survey by the Fraser Institute of mining companies: 2010/2011, Idaho showed a modest improvement in the assessment of last year, located in the upper half of jurisdiction and place between Arizona and New Mexico for its investment climate related to mining. The survey is based on the opinions of mining executives representing 429 companies from exploration and development on a range of criteria including how mineral endowments and public policy factors such as taxation and regulation affect investment in exploration in 79 countries around the world.
Mineral exploration and investment potential
Western Pacific Resources Corp. (CVE: WRP) focuses on the properties of precious metals in Idaho and Nevada. In August 2009, the company received 345 requests in southern Cassia County, Idaho known as the Mineral Gulch property. The project includes the historic mining Pine black with sporadic small-scale gold and base metal mining occurred in the region since 1915. Pegasus Mining has acquired ownership of Noranda and produced over 500,000 ounces of gold from several small open pits in the late 1980s until the mid-1990s.
In April of Vista Gold Corp. (TSX: VGZ) (AMEX: VGZ) announced the successful completion of an agreement in December to combine assets with Midas Gold, a private company that controlled the majority of the Yellow Pine - District stibnite, which included a number of historic past producing mines. Towards the end of last month, Midas reported a mineral resource estimate for the project Golden Meadows. Overall, the company reports that the three gold deposits in the project are estimated to contain an indicated mineral resource of 2.05 million ounces of gold and an inferred mineral resource of 3.74 million additional ounces of gold.
Atlanta Gold Inc. (CVE: ATG), a gold medal junior exploration company with development and properties in Idaho, Quebec and Nunavut has recently made a series of announcements regarding the acquisition of additional property and plans for exploration of the project. 2011 The objective of exploration is to test the continuity of a shear zone at vertical depths of 610 meters below and test the northwest trend of the structure to increase the mineral resources of gold by the end of 2011. A number of environmental initiatives and development related to infrastructure related to the project include host Atlanta and buildings to rebuild on the site of the warehouse and offices.
Premium Exploration Inc. (CVE: PEM) is focused on gold exploration land package in his district size in north-central Idaho near Elk City in the shear zone Orogrande. The objective of the company is to develop to term the multiple resources of gold near the surface along its property that extends beyond 30 km. Its strategy of drilling structures identified by geophysical and gold trends in soil resulted in three gold discoveries and development of significant resources with five potential areas of mineralization.
Otis Gold Corp. (CVE: OOO) is engaged in the business of the acquisition and exploration mining interests unproven, including Kilgore Gold Project in Clark County, and several other properties in the county of Lemhi. Last month, the company said gold recovery positive column leaching tests performed on bulk samples of the crest of the mine Kilgore. The project has a NI 43-101 compliant resource of 218,000 ounces of gold indicated by drilling and inferred 269,000 ounces of gold. In its operations, 2011 on the implementation plans of large diameter column leach tests on a coarse crush size conducting additional analytical and characterization to further improve the resource.
Terraco Gold Corp. (CVE: TEN) (PINK: TCEGF) has a combination of early and advanced stage gold-silver projects in Idaho and Nevada. Project Company is located east of Almaden Weiser and north of Boise. The project hosts a NI 43-101 measured and indicated resource of 864,000 ounces of gold and an inferred resource of 84,000 ounces of gold near the surface. The proposed advanced Almaden has excellent access to quality infrastructure and includes 887 drill holes. In mid-April Terraco announced that its 2011 exploration program is now underway, starting with two basic platforms designed to confirm higher grade zones of gold near the surface and test high grade, Bonanza style, structurally controlled gold mineralization at depth.

Gold Mining in Chile

Chile is recognized first as a producer of copper, and is less famous neighbor Peru that when it comes to gold. Gold mining in Chile dates back to the late sixteenth century, when a series of rich alluvial Produced tons per year estimated at 2 tons of gold per year. At the end of this periodical, the Spanish were driven from their mines and towns by the Mapuche Indians and gold production declined significantly.
When the second period of mining for gold began in 1740, was the gold mined veins. Gold mining has been encouraged by the creation of a Mint in Santiago in 1749, and peaked at over 3 tons in 1810. A decline in the mining sector due to cam the war for independence from Spain This happened from 1819 to 1823. The nineteenth century was a period of political instability, and therefore Chile miners left to explore in more stable countries politically.

In the 1930s, when the political climate has stabilized, the ounces of gold has been considerable re-operated as a by-product of copper and silver. This third production cycle accelerated the increase was in gold prices. This time, however, was not the time for new discoveries. In fact, hardly any new deposits have been explored, but many of the old hard-rock mining using modern technology have been reactivated. Production peaked at 11.5 tonnes in 1939 before declining to 2 tons in 1960. This level was maintained until the release of the gold price in 1971 was the beginning of the fourth, is the most spectacular rise and continued in production.
The current dynamics of the gold rush has been strengthened, thanks to the discovery of a series of sub-volcanic, mainly epithermal, gold deposits at altitudes of Mostly located more than 4000 m in the Cordillera Andes. In addition to the epithermal deposits thesis, Chile holds significant reserves aussi gold porphyry deposits. The epithermal gold deposits in Chile have formed during the Cretaceous-Cenozoic by following a non-collisional ocean-continent convergent plate margin. Crustal stresses resulting from the margin of platform created long, winding north northeast of the magmatic belt is roughly parallel the Pacific coast. Mineralization belts thesis "varies in a north-south direction, due to the timing of magmatism along the margin platform.
Although the porphyry-type deposits are as common as type epithermal deposits, the quality of the mineralization in these deposits are sporadic. Therefore, it is common that gold porphyry deposits extracted as a by-product of copper and molybdenum.
Precious gold vein deposits have been discovered in the coastal areas of northern Chile. Thesis veins are the result of a relatively recent enrichment event (in the last 15 million years), which involved the movement of the chlorine brine near the surface of the earth. This brine added additional enrichment or superficial.
Local mines
The largest gold project in Chile is the Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX: ABX) Pascua-Lama project. Pascua Lama is currently the gold project in Chile with proven and probable reserves of 17.8 million ounces of gold and 671 million ounces of silver. The project is developing, according to Barrick's website, should be operational in 2013. The estimated mine life of A years, more than 25 years, and the approximate costs of operating cash flow of $ 20 to $ 50 an ounce, which would if carried out one Pascua-Lama gold mining on lowest cost in the world.
Exeter Resource Corp.. (TSE: XRC) is an exploration stage in Chile working on the project Caspiche Situated in Maricunga belt between Barrick and Kinross Gold Cerro Casale gold-copper. The estimated size of the resource, it ranks as one of the Caspiche discovery of gold the largest industry in recent years.
State-owned Codelco, the world's largest producer of copper, gold aussi product from its activities in Chile. Codelco has an exploration agreement with Barrick years looking for new gold and copper deposits.

Why Gold Is So Valuable

Gold is very important because many people believe it is. the value of gold is a cultural phenomenon. Its price is determined by a complex combination of factors, but not necessarily. Cultures that do not use gold or not to seek, not the value. Gold is essentially an investment product. He is regarded as a refuge against the currencies during precarious economic times.

Gold has been treasured throughout history. Cultures ranging from ancient Egypt to China for the indigenous people he appreciated for its beauty and its unique characteristics. Gold was so valuable that the pursuit thereof led to the atrocities of man, from colonialism to the war on slavery. The Americas were colonized largely as a result of gold exploration. Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortez destroyed the Aztec empire, and fellow Spaniard Francisco Pizarro destroyed the Inca empire while looting gold. Many human migrations, as the "gold rush" 1849 in California, are the direct result of gold discoveries. So many people have joined the area of California that he won decades earlier state surrounding territories. Most paper money around the world was based on the gold standard until the 20th century. The Great Depression prompted most countries to leave the gold standard in 1932.

Gold is valuable because it has unique properties. It is a soft metal so it is easy to forge, but incredibly strong. It does not tarnish, rust or corrosion. Gold maintains a cosmetic luster over time. All these factors attracted cultures around the world to the gold treasure of art, jewelry and coins. Gold is an element. On the periodic table, it has the atomic number 79 and its symbol is "Au". It conducts heat and electricity as well. This makes gold useful for electronics and chemical applications. Virtually all computers in the world has gold in it.

Gold is traded in world markets. It is treated as a commodity with real metal never changed hands. He is considered a safe haven for investments during economic downturns. Investors believe that gold will always hold its value while the currencies and stocks could not. Gold is valued in jewelry and artwork. It does not cause allergic reactions and requires no maintenance to shine and look great. Gold is also valuable coins and ingots. Gold coins made by the ancient civilizations still survive today and are prized by collectors.

There are misconceptions about how the gold price is determined. It is not just about supply and demand. In fact, in 1999 and 2000 there was a strong demand for gold jewelry, but gold prices remained low. the value of gold is more influenced by global money markets. The price of gold is closely linked to confidence in the U.S. dollar. The value of gold increases confidence in the dollar declines. There is also a misunderstanding about the definition of "pure gold." Nearly all the gold in private property is an alloy, which means it is partly gold. It is normally combined with the silver or copper to make it quite difficult to handle. Eighteen karat gold is only 75 percent of gold. Fourteen karat gold is less than 60 percent of gold.

Gold is also valuable because of its rarity. It is estimated that all the gold in the world would form a cube measuring just 19 meters on each side. It is a remarkably small amount considering the size of Earth. More gold is mined all the time but the demand also increases because there are more people to be desired.

Make Money Buying Gold

Gold is the most ancient and most enduring of the legal tender. It is universally recognized for its value and rarity. While financial markets reduce the wild fluctuations over short periods of time, gold prices tend to slide up and down. The patient investor can do very well if they know what to look for.

It is important to understand what makes up the price of gold. When the economy is doing well, gold prices tend to fall. When the economy goes bad, the gold price increases. Investors tend to cling to the enduring value of gold when their financial future is uncertain.

Back in 1999, gold was selling for about $ 250 an ounce. In 2008 it topped $ 1,000 an ounce and not look back. Similar dips and spikes are recorded throughout history. Understand that gold prices do not fluctuate much on a daily basis, but often a steady upward or downward in March over several months and years.

The key to making money in gold is to buy low and sell high. This may seem obvious, but if it was easy then everyone would. If you are buying gold, do it when nobody wants gold. Do not buy when everyone has the gold fever.

Another way is to collect the gold that nobody wants. Most gold transactions focus on the gold coins of high quality. With gold coins, condition and rarity of the piece increases the price dramatically over the value of the gold content. In the meantime, you can find gold lower quality, gold bars, scrap gold selling price equal to or less than the cash value. You can often buy gold this cheap in lots or as scrap unwanted. When the price of gold is high, your gold less-than-perfect sell very well.

When gold accumulated, compare every opportunity to buy in bulk and cost cutting. Many gold dealers waive sales tax and shipping when you buy a certain amount. When you sell your gold pedal to the general public. A gold dealer will want a wholesale price to you, but ordinary people pay the retail market. Sell your gold on the auction sites on the Internet in the rooms coin or another investor who is not as smart as you.

Hang on as gold, if the spot price is rising. investing in gold is an exercise in patience. Earn your gold when the economy is doing well and gold is cheap. Wait until the economy crashes. It always ends. When the gold price rises, the dust of your gold, sell it and reap the benefits.

SET UP YOUR SLUICE BOX

use of basic equipment and configuration is not difficult unless you do not have an instruction manual or someone to show you how. All equipment wet recovery is based on the principles of the pan. A lock is simply a pan along with all of the same principles of density, water velocity and angle. Every great piece of equipment that uses a sluice box will be set with similar instructions, so when you learned how to set up a sluice, hand you the basics of how to implement all of sluices wet recovery.

One of the first pieces of equipment most people buy when they have a pan is a sluice box by hand. Now, the creation of a sluice hand correctly will make the difference between keeping the gold and run to the end of the lock. Velocity of water is one of the most important things for the right when using a flume. Each type of water from other equipment using a sluice box, one way or another, and learn how a sluice box is important to every other piece of prospecting equipment. A dredge or washer Highbank Dry will be introduced in the environment they work best, so these instructions specifically address the lock by hand.

After you have done your tests to find a place likely to find gold, you'll need to find a place in the water is running enough water to move material to the case of lock. Not too fast, or you will be chasing the sluice on the river! Not too slow, or you will build rock diversions for more water in the sluice box. (When water is limited, you can do). A place between two large rocks can work, or along a river or the brook will do nicely for the most part. How to tell if your water is too fast or too slow? It will take some practice, but is not too difficult to learn very quickly when you get the lock box in the water. Prior to the sluice in the water, finding a large rock that can be placed in the box to help low weights so that the water did not win.

The slope of the sluice box is the next thing you need to adjust. Experts recommend starting with a slope of 1 inch of drop (pitch angle) for each leg of the box is long. This can be adjusted to help speed water down the sluice box, but worry later and get your basic setup done first. Place the lock box in the water, you have to adjust the slope and place of the big rock at the top of the box. Then you'll want to throw a few handfuls of material into the sluice box to see how fast the material passes through the box. If it does not move too much, you will need to increase

amount of water coming down from the box by slightly increasing the slope of the box or by increasing the amount of water entering the box. We usually try increasing the angle first, as more water can be difficult to find or can not bring depth of water at stake even if the subject moves too quickly and does not catch black sand and pebbles are zipping along, you will need to reduce the amount of water entering the box, or decrease the slope of the box. Again, we play with the first slope and the amount of water a second. The ideal is when the material class to the box to keep the black sand and a bit of golden sand, but by eliminating most of the rocks and sand. Flat rocks not hang up in the box mater what the speed of the water, so watch them more rounded. Getting this right will have a little practice, but there is much room for error. You can adjust the box each time you want to achieve the desired capacity capture.

Another element to consider is the depth of water in the box. This must be regarded as too much water running into the box may increase the depth of water in the box. In addition to placing the sluice in the water too deep to begin with a desire to do the same thing. Want a depth where you can see the water slightly jumping over the rapids. It should not be a steady stream of water, but some jumps. That's about it. Practice makes perfect, and always test the equipment running at the end of the box with your pan to see if you lose a lot of gold. If you are, adjust your sluice box or by reducing the slope to slow the water to keep more material.

Equipment needed to run your sluice box: shovel, spade in hand, 2 buckets (one can always be a seat), grader, leather gloves, pan, bottle, pipette or bottle of pumping, first aid kit , lunch, drinking water.

One last thought on the use of hand lock. Resist the food too much material in the lock and overload. If you do not allow water to classify the material by mixing completely, the heavier material will run out of the box and gold tone with her. Gravity works if you give him a chance to do the job, and this is true with any type of survey equipment for water, you can use.
